FAU basketball to host 'Seinfeld Night' for game vs. Wichita State

Florida Atlantic is taking a trip back to the 90s with a “Seinfeld Night” theme for its basketball matchup against Wichita State on Thursday evening. The school announced that fans in attendance will be treated to several giveaways honoring the classic sitcom, which is the favorite TV show of head coach John Jakus.
Fans will get the chance to meet an impersonator of “Kramer,” one of the main characters of the show, and get a photo and an autograph before the game. There will also be a limited amount of custom Seinfeld posters and PEZ dispensers, a callback to a favorite episode, given away.
Additionally, several interactive events are set to take place on the videoboard during timeouts and other breaks in action, all of which reference the show in some way. This includes a “hand model competition” against George Costanza and a “puffy shirt contest” against Jerry Seinfeld.
Finally, the Florida Atlantic marine biology program will receive special recognition at halftime for “keeping acquatic life safe from golf ball obsruction.” This is another bit from the show where George’s character tells a story to a marine biologist about saving a beached whale by removing a golf ball stuck in its blowhole.
The game between the Owls and Shockers is set to tip off at 9 p.m. ET and will be televised on ESPN2. The meet and greet with Kramer will begin 45 minutes before that at 8:15 p.m.

FAU reported as of this afternoon that there were still a limited number of tickets available for fans who are perhaps just hearing about this and wanting to attend.
The Owls (15-10, 8-4 AAC) are in the midst of a five-game winning streak and looking to build some momentum late to potentially make a push for the NCAA Tournament. Florida Atlantic has more each of the past two tournaments, even advancing to the Final Four in 2023.
This is its first season under Jakus, however, as Dusty May left this offseason to become the coach at Michigan. They have a couple of big opportunities ahead of them, as after this game against Wichita State, they are set to play No. 22 Memphis on Sunday.
We’ll see whether the “Seinfeld Night” can cause enough fan interest to give Florida Atlantic a boost in the game against the Shockers as they look to keep their winning streak alive.
