Florida safety Rashad Torrence II signs UDFA deal following 2023 NFL Draft
The Los Angeles Rams were looking for some players to compete for roster spots in camp, following the 2023 NFL Draft. The franchise signed Florida safety Rashad Torrence II to an undrafted free agent contract on Saturday night, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.
Torrence spent only three seasons at Florida, having an impact right away and emerging as a multi-year starter.
In total, Torrence made 28 starts in three seasons for the Gators, paired with veteran Trey Dean in the back end of the secondary. He posted some very respectable numbers, especially as a tackler.
In his three-year career, Torrence logged 196 tackles, 3.5 tackles for a loss, three interceptions, two fumble recoveries, a forced fumble and six passes defended.
Torrence was a mid-level four-star prospect out of high school.
According to the On3 Industry Rankings, he ranked as the No. 364 overall player in the 2020 recruiting class. He was also ranked as the No. 29 safety in the class and the No. 38 overall player in the state of Georgia, hailing from Marietta (Ga.) Marietta.
What NFL Draft analysts are saying about Rashad Torrence II
Torrence was a machine as a tackler at Florida, but the Gators had a lot of coverage busts in the back end while he and Dean were patrolling the safety level.

That will be a key concern with Torrence as he heads to the next level.
Writes NFL Draft analyst Lance Zierlein in evaluating Torrence:
“Free safety with adequate athleticism but a lack of top-end speed and explosiveness on tape. Torrence understands the game and has a safety’s feel for leverage and caution when needed. He’s generally around the action and in position, but he needs to become a much more consistent wrap-up tackler.
“He can be opportunistic but is unlikely to create ball production at a high level as a pro due to his lack of instincts and burst. Torrence’s athletic testing at the NFL Scouting Combine could force him to compete for a roster spot as an undrafted player.”
Among the strengths listed for Torrence are fluid lateral movement in coverage underneath, smart angles to the ball and a knack for knocking the ball off pass-catchers.
However, there are several weaknesses that include average quickness and change of direction, poor deep ball recovery speed and allowing too many yards after contact when playing the run.
