Former Alabama Crimson Tide linebacker Christian Harris is officially in the pros. After the Houston Texans moved up five spots in the third round to select the Alabama product, he now joins a few friends from the SEC who were also selected by the Texans. Once Harris was able to calm down and get settled into his new hoe, the Texans rookie did an interview and shared why he believes he is a good fit in Houston and his feeling on draft night.

“I was excited, speechless. I was really just sitting there, I mean obviously with my family and I just saw that call and instantly I started crying almost,” said Harris. “So, as soon as I got on the phone my eyes started tearing up. And I’m very excited. I love the defense that they have. They were able to show me how I was utilized, how I’ll be able to be utilized in their scheme and the success that I could have with that. So, I mean even thinking about John Metchie too, as well, Derek Stingley, being able to play with those guys on the same teams it’s definitely exciting for me.”

Harris made an impact right away at Alabama, totaling 61 tackles with 7.5 tackles for loss, one pass defended and one fumble recovery in 2019. He then totaled 79 tackles, seven tackles for loss, 4.5 sacks, two passes defended, and one interception as a sophomore in 2020. This past season, Harris turned in his best season yet with 80 tackles, 11.5 tackles for loss, 5.5 sacks, three passes defended, and two forced fumbles.

Nick Saban: Culture of winning must start in Alabama locker room

Alabama Crimson Tide head coach Nick Saban has been speaking his mind on all things college football. And when he was not laying into other programs and their recruiting methods using NIL and the transfer portal, the Alabama head man delivered some insight into how his program is run. For Saban, in order to have a culture of winning, it must start within the locker room.

“Well I think if the players really want to win, I think a culture of winning starts in the locker,” said Saban on the Paul Finebaum Show. “Starts with the leadership on your team, starts with everybody buying into the principles and values of the program on the standard that you want to compete too, which in effect is the best thing for them. That’s what creates the most value for them. And that’s what we’re going to continue to try to emphasize in our program. We’re going to adapt when we have to adapt to the new environment. But we’re also going to keep in mind that our focus needs to be on creating value for our players.”

Saban has definitely put together a winning recipe when it comes to college football. Since joining the Crimson Tide after leaving the Miami Dolphins in 2007, Saban and Alabama have accounted for six national championships. His six is more than the rest of the SEC combined at five. So, if Saban says a winning culture starts in the locker room, believe him; he has the hardware to prove it.
