Report: Former Alabama linebacker Reuben Foster receives workout with Seattle Seahawks

Former Alabama Crimson Tide standout and current free agent linebacker Reuben Foster‘s NFL career has been a rocky one on and off the field. Despite his woes, teams throughout the league continue to work him out.

Following an April workout for the Miami Dolphins, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports that the Seattle Seahawks have a scheduled workout with Foster for Sunday.

Foster, a former first round pick (31st overall in the 2017 NFL Draft) by the San Francisco 49ers, played in just 16 games over the course of his first two seasons in San Francisco, totaling 101 tackles with ten tackles for loss, seven quarterback hits, and two passes defended. In the middle of the 2018 season, the 49ers waived Foster after multiple arrests, including one for domestic violence, and he was claimed by Washington. 

Foster never played a game in Washington. The team said at the time of his acquisition that Foster had a lot of work to do to see the field. Once his legal situations were resolved, he was reinstated in April of 2019. Just a month later in May, Foster tore his ACL and LCL in his first practice with Washington, ending his season. He was then activated from injured reserve in August of 2020 before he landed back on the IR list just a month later.

Former Alabama star Najee Harris discusses growth into leadership role

Former Alabama star Najee Harris dominated the NFL in his rookie season. That was very much the expectation that many people across the country had for the man who was one of the most prolific running backs in Crimson Tide program history. It certainly was the expectation for the Steelers’ franchise, after they made the dynamic tailback their first-round draft pick (No. 24 overall selection) in the 2021 NFL Draft. 

While he was dominating on-the-field during his rookie season, a few of the Steelers’ veterans pulled him aside and told Harris he could slowly work his way into a leadership role for the team. Recently at the franchise’s training camp in Latrobe, Pennsylvania, Harris spoke with reporters about his growth into the leadership position.

“Because him and Cam [Heyward], you know, they brought me in there a lot. Talked to me about the leadership role. And they said…later in the season they brought me in and said they didn’t want me to be that type of guy yet. Because they just wanted me to get my feet wet and just slowly work my way into it. But they told me, you know, there’s gonna be a time when you need to be that guy,” Harris said recently after a Steelers’ practice.

The gifted tailback then discussed the different leadership types and described his leadership style. “I mean, there’s all type of leaders. There’s leaders who lead at the front, obviously vocal ones like Cam [Heyward]. And there’s leaders who lead by example. You know, I think I’m a guy who leads by example. You know, I think I’m a guy who leads by example. I try to be that type of person, but you know, like I said, I’ve gotta be the one that leads by speaking, too. But, you know, there’s all types of leaders. It’s just really who the team feels more comfortable with. Who can set the best example of what the standard is, I guess. For me, that’s just playing by the standard. That’s it for me,” Harris said.
