Bryce Young retells adorable baby story that led parents to know he'd make the NFL
Former Alabama quarterback Bryce Young was the No. 1 rated quarterback in the nation in his 2020 high school recruiting class according to On3’s Industry Ranking. He’s now poised to be a high pick in the upcoming NFL Draft, and he surely wouldn’t be the first top high school QB to pan out be a first round draft pic.
But according to Young’s parents, he was destined for this moment long before he was recruited as a high schooler, showing some impressive reflexes and hand-eye coordination at a very young age. Young shared the full story on ESPN’s ‘SportsCenter’ with anchor David Lloyd on Thursday.
“Yes, that’s definitely a story that’s out there,” Young said. “Obviously, I don’t have any memory of it and it does sound a little preposterous to me too I always tell them about it. But they’re all in, they believe in it, apparently, I caught a ball when I was like four months old.”
Young may have shown the skills of a wide receiver as a baby, but ended up turning into quite the quarterback, throwing for 8,356 yards, 80 touchdowns, and taking home the Heisman Trophy during his career at Alabama.
And he may be a little skeptical about his athletic achievement as a four-month-old, but nonetheless trusts the story told to him by his parents.

“My dad knew right then and there, I trust him I believe him, whatever he says. It sounds a little crazy to me too but my mom’s had his back on it too so I was just talking to them about this not too long ago and they’re sold, they’re convinced so I guess all I can do is take their word for it,” Young said.
Many have Young projected as the No. 1 overall pick of the 2023 NFL Draft. And whether he’s the top pick or not, his NFL dreams will still come true on draft day, fulfilling the prophecy of his parents from long ago.
Nick Saban on Bryce Young
Alabama head coach Nick Saban may not have recruited Young when he was a baby, but surely saw what his parents did in him out of high school. Saban spoke about his former quarterback ahead of the draft, touching on his positive traits and the assessment of him as an NFL prospect.
“We’re excited for Bryce, we’re certainly hopeful that everything works out for him. I don’t think there’s any question about the fact that most people agree that he was the most productive guy in the draft at that position,” Saban said. “But they take size and all that stuff into consideration and all that kind of stuff into consideration. It’s not where you get picked in the draft though, it’s really what kind of career you have and he’s the kind of guy that whatever happens in this is he’s gonna be very dedicated to trying to be the best player he can be.”
