Former Cowboys LB Anthony Barr's home in Los Angeles burglarized
NFL free agent linebacker Anthony Barr had his home ransacked and burglarized this week in Los Angeles. On the bright side, no one was hurt and Barr was not at home at the time of the break-in.
Home security footage revealed the break-in occurred around 2 a.m., according to TMZ. Three men smashed a window at the rear of the house and proceeded to enter. Police arrived at the scene quickly but the thieves were already gone. It’s unclear, so far, what the burglars took from the home. The situation is now under investigation.
Barr, who starred for the UCLA Bruins in college, is just the latest high-profile Los Angeles resident to deal with a break-in. This spring, former Celtics star Paul Pierce experienced a similar situation with more than $100,000 stolen from his LA home, along with luxury watches and a safe.
The veteran linebacker played the 2022 season with the Dallas Cowboys on a one-year deal worth $2 million but his contract ran out last March, making him a free agent. As a free agent, he was free to re-sign with the Minnesota Vikings when they came calling in November. Initially signing to the practice squad, he played in just four games for Minnesota in 2023, tallying one tackle and one fumble recovery.
Barr approaches 2024 season as free agent
Despite a hamstring injury that briefly sidelined him, Barr played 16 games for the Cowboys in 2022. The former Minnesota Vikings first-round draft pick posted 58 tackles during the regular season and an additional nine in the two postseason games. He also added a sack and two fumble recoveries, along with 4.5 tackles for loss.

The 2014 draft pick out of UCLA played eight seasons with the Vikings to start his career. He had restructured his 2021 deal to clear up $2.8 million in cap space but the Vikings ultimately let him go into free agency for 2022. In 2019, he signed the biggest deal of his career for five years, $67.5 million.
With Minnesota, Barr started all 98 games he played. He made four straight Pro Bowls from 2015-18 and racked up 39 tackles for loss, 17.5 sacks, eight forced fumbles, five interceptions, and 31 pass breakups during his time in the Purple and Gold.
If Barr signs a deal with a new team for the 2024 season, it will be his 11th in the league. The Vikings snagged him in the first round in 2014.
