Former Cowboys safety Kavon Frazier announces retirement ahead of training camp
The start of NFL training camps across the country has finally rolled around, much to the delight of football fans everywhere. Sometimes with the beginning of a new season, comes a time of reflection for many players to decide it’s time to finally hang their cleats up and walk away from the game. For former Dallas Cowboys safety Kavon Frazier, Friday evening was that time. He announced his retirement from the game of football via his Twitter page.
He wrote, “As I approach getting ready for my 7th training camp, I realize that something is missing. Something isn’t the same. These last 6 years has been a rollercoaster. From a kid with one offer to Central Michigan, to being a core player on America’s team, I have no regrets. Many people know me as a core special team player and some know me as a guy that dealt with a lot of injuries, but it’s time to change that narrative. No longer will people just identify me as a football player. Football is something that I play(ed), but it doesn’t define me as a person. I’m a man of God. A Husband, A Father, and an Entrepreneur,” Frazier wrote.
“With that being said, today, I’ll be walking away from the game I played for the last 20 years to peruse my entrepreneur journey and make a real difference in our community. I have a passion in building and transforming businesses and taking them to the next level. I also realized that it is a systematic issue in our country and we fall victim to it every day, even at the 1% level. Four years ago, while I was recovering from a pec injury, I started a business called Built 4 It Athletics. This past January, I acquired another business called APEC. A little over a month ago, we changed Built 4 It’s name to APEC. Along with APEC, I am working on starting an investment firm called Athlete Investment Academy to change the stigma around athletes and their financial issues. Moving forward, I will not spend anymore of my time. I will invest my time in my family, my business, and myself,” Frazier wrote.

A former standout for the Central Michigan Chippewas, Frazier was named a second team All-MAC selection in 2015. His senior season was when he posted the best stats of his college football career, racking up 108 tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss, four pass deflections, one interception, and one blocked punt.
Frazier was selected by the Dallas Cowboys in the sixth round (No. 212 overall) of the 2016 NFL Draft. While he did join three other teams during his NFL career (Miami Dolphins, Cincinnati Bengals, and Las Vegas Raiders), he made, by far, his biggest impact on special teams with the Cowboys. Frazier did get to play on the defensive side of the football for Dallas, but in limited action. From 2016-2021, he racked up 73 tackles, four tackles for loss, and one forced fumble during the 60 games he suited up in the National Football League.
