Free agent cornerback Jerry Jacobs is reportedly signing a new deal to join the LA Rams for the 2024 season after three years in Detroit, according to NFL insider Jeremy Fowler. Jacobs entered free agency in March after the Lions declined to extend his contract.

In 2023 for Detroit, he posted a career-high 55 tackles with one tackle for loss and three interceptions. His picks came in games against the Carolina Panthers and Green Bay Packers.

An undrafted free agent out of Arkansas, Jacobs began his career in the NFL when he signed a deal with the Lions. He inked for three years, $2.43 million. His new deal with the Rams is pending a physical.

As a rookie for Detroit, Jacobs quickly became a key contributor to the defense. He posted 34 tackles and forced a fumble. He boosted his production in his second season with 42 tackles in 12 games played. He also had his first career interception in a matchup against the New York Jets.

With the Rams, Jacobs will be coached by head coach Sean McVay. He joins a room with cornerbacks Darious Williams and Tre’Davious White. Williams suffered a hamstring injury during practice on Thursday. Bringing in the former Razorback adds depth for the Rams as they get into the meat of training camp.

More on the 2024 NFL offseason, free agency

The NFL 2024 calendar year began at 4 p.m. ET on March 13. At that time, contracts running through 2023 officially ran out, making those players free agents. Prior to the beginning of free agency, teams had a chance to designate one franchise or transition tag player, starting on Feb. 20 at 4 p.m. ET and ending on March 5. Beginning March 11 through March 13 teams could enter into a legal negotiation with players who will become unrestricted free agents.

In addition to NFL free agency, the new year also marked the beginning of all trades being made official by the league office. April 19 marked the deadline to sign restricted free agents to offer sheets. On April 24, the deadline for teams to match restricted free agent offers sheets hit.
