With the NFL Combine underway in Indianapolis, several of college football’s top players are looking to impress scouts with their testing results. That includes former Florida State DL Braden Fiske who had to enjoy himself for a second after his 40-yard dash.

Fiske ran a 4.78 in an attempt in the 40 inside Lucas Oil Stadium this afternoon. If you can listen closely on the NFL Network’s broadcast, though, you can hear Fiske pat himself on the back for his time at the second that he crosses the finish line.

“Oh yeah!” shouts Fiske as he crosses the line at the end of his run.

At an unofficial 4.78 to this point, that gave Fiske a 10-yard split of 1.68 seconds. To this point of the combine, he also has recorded a 33.5″ vertical jump and a 9’9″ broad jump.

After five seasons at Western Michigan, Fiske spent last season in Tallahassee after joining the Seminoles in the transfer portal. In his lone season with Florida State, he tallied 43 tackles and tied a career-high with six sacks.

During his collegiate career, Fiske totaled 191 tackles, 19.5 sacks, and three forced fumbles with two recoveries in 57 games.

Fiske is one of a dozen former Seminoles that will participate in the combine over the next few days. Per Lance Zierlein at NFL.com, he is the No. 5 DT in the draft. His overall evaluation of him was that of an “average starter” in the NFL.

“Defensive tackle with below-average mass and length who makes up for it with above-average quickness and a constantly revving engine. Fiske uses sudden hands and nimble feet to whip single blocks. Once he finds daylight, he flies to whoever has the ball,” Zierlein wrote. “He doesn’t have the anchor to sit down and muddy gaps, so scheme will be important for him. Fiske is a hustle rusher who can win quick or late if opponents don’t play with proper hand usage and match his energy. He lacks ideal measurables but has a chance to become an impact defender.”

Every player at the combine is looking to best boost their odds of being a high selection at the start of the draft in Detroit in April. Fiske is already off to a great start, though, based on his own approval of his run in the 40.

Verse leads group of 12 Seminoles into NFL Scouting Combine

The NFL Scouting Combine begins on Thursday in Indianapolis and Florida State will be very well-represented with 12 players participating.

After the initial team interviews, physical measurements and medical testing, more than 300 NFL prospects will run the 40-yard dash and take part in drills on the field later in the week. The defensive linemen and linebackers will be on the field on Thursday, followed by the defensive backs and tight ends on Friday. Then the quarterbacks, wide receivers and running backs will go on Saturday, followed by offensive linemen on Sunday.

With Jared Verse being the only Florida State player projected as a sure-fire first-round pick on most NFL mock drafts, this week will be a great opportunity for the Seminoles’ other 11 standouts to make a big impression.
