Sentencing has come down for former NFL defensive back Vontae Davis in his DUI case. Avoiding jail time, Davis was sentenced to probation.

Vontae Davis will be on probation for 12 months and is the result of a plea deal that he cut with prosecutors last month, per court records. In exchange, prosecutors didn’t move forward with any other charges against Davis.

A first round pick in the 2009 NFL Draft out of Illinois, Vontae Davis played for three teams during his NFL career, the Miami Dolphins, Indianapolis Colts, and Buffalo Bills. He’s best known for his time with the Colts, where he went to two Pro Bowls. While at Illinois, he was a two-time All-Big Ten selection.

Davis last played in the NFL in 2018.

In February, Vontae Davis was accused of drunkenly crashing his vehicle into another, causing an accident. He was driving a Tesla and hit a Toyota truck. Police documents claimed that Davis was unable to control his vehicle. The force of the collision also pushed the Toyota into a pedestrian, who needed to be taken to the hospital with injuries.

The incident occurred in Broward County, Florida, and led to six charges, including DUI being levied against Davis.

Both vehicles were totaled and Davis was seen sleeping on the side of the road, next to the cars immediately following the accident. His eyes were reportedly bloodshot and needed help holding himself up. Later, while being questioned by police, Davis appeared to struggle to stay awake.

Now 35 years old, Davis will need to pay fines and fees, as well as cover the medical bills for anyone injured during the incident. He was also given 50 hours of community service.

There is still a civil lawsuit against Vontae Davis relating to the incident that has remained unresolved to this point.

Former NFL WR Henry Ruggs underwent treatment for PTSD after fatal crash

Henry Ruggs was sentenced to three to ten years in prison for a fatal car crash that he caused while intoxicated. Prior to that sentencing, his lawyers revealed that he spent time in treatment for PTSD after the crash that killed Tina Tintor and her dog.

“[It] is evidence that Mr. Ruggs is a man of good character who made a terrible mistake,” the lawyers wrote. “In light of Mr. Ruggs’ post-offense conduct, it is clear that he has made positive changes in his life, has accepted responsibility, and has sincere remorse.”
