The Buffalo Bills suffered a heartbreaking 33-30 loss in overtime to the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday. However, it was an overtime showdown that likely should not have ever happened, according to CBS Sports Rules Analyst Gene Steratore.

Trailing 30-27 in the final minute, the Bills hit Gabe Davis on a 14-yard pass to the Vikings’ 25-yard line. The play appeared to be a bit controversial about whether or not Davis completed the catch. Steratore took to Twitter to share his take on the controversy.

“This is a difficult play to rule on in real-time,” Steratore wrote. “However, considering the importance of this play, failing to initiate a review is hard to accept. The ball is on the ground and out of the control of the receiver. This is incomplete.”

After the Davis pass was called complete, the Bills kicked a 29-yard field goal, courtesy of Tyler Bass. That tied the game and eventually sent it into overtime. After winning the coin toss in overtime, Minnesota went on a 12-play drive that resulted in a field goal in overtime. The Bills got the ball back with a chance to win the game and got down to the Minnesota 20-yard line. But Josh Allen then threw an interception in the end zone, ending the game.

Minnesota’s special season continues

The Vikings are off to a very strong season in 2022. Minnesota opened the year with a blowout of the Green Bay Packers. The Vikings have raced out to an 8-1 record following their impressive win over the Bills.

With seven straight wins, the Vikings now look to keep things rolling in a big game next week. Minnesota will play host to the Dallas Cowboys next Sunday at 3:25 p.m. CT.
