Former Steelers wide receiver Allen Robinson inks new deal with New York Giants
Former Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Allen Robinson is headed to the Big Apple after inking a new deal with the Giants this week. Robinson signed with New York on Thursday, according to NFL insider Tom Pelissero. The Steelers released the veteran into free agency in March, which saved the team $10 million in cap space.
Robinson, a 10-year veteran, posted one of his worst seasons in terms of production for the Steelers in 2023. He had just 34 catches for 280 yards with no scores. It was the first time in his career, save for an injury-plagued 2017 season with the Jaguars, that he didn’t score a touchdown.
Robinson has dealt with a number of injuries over the past few years. During his 10 years in the league, he’s hauled in 562 total catches for 7,028 yards, while catching 43 total touchdowns.
He had three seasons of over 1,000 yards receiving, with two of those coming for the Chicago Bears. The other was when he played for the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2015. That year with the Jaguars, he brought in 80 catches for 1,400 yards and 14 touchdowns.
Prior to his one-year stint with the Steelers, Robinson spent a season with the L.A. Rams. In the 2022 season, he finished with 33 catches for 339 receiving yards and three touchdowns. He was on a three-year, $46.5 million deal with the Rams when they traded him, along with a seventh-round draft pick, for a higher seventh-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft.

More on the 2024 NFL offseason, free agency
The NFL 2024 calendar year began at 4 p.m. ET on March 13. At that time, contracts running through 2023 officially ran out, making those players free agents. Prior to the beginning of free agency, teams had a chance to designate one franchise or transition tag player, starting on Feb. 20 at 4 p.m. ET and ending on March 5. Beginning March 11 through March 13 teams could enter into a legal negotiation with players who will become unrestricted free agents.
In addition to NFL free agency, the new year also marked the beginning of all trades being made official by the league office. April 19 marked the deadline to sign restricted free agents to offer sheets. On April 24, the deadline for teams to match restricted free agent offer sheets hit. Following the restricted free agent deadline followed the 2024 NFL Draft, which ran from April 25-27.
