Leonard Fournette describes Tom Brady's Super Bowl LV pregame speech
For the first time in a very long time, legendary quarterback Tom Brady won’t be suiting up for an NFL team this upcoming season. Brady announced his retirement in February after 23 seasons in the NFL, but the moments and memories he’s created throughout his career will ring on forever.
Former teammate of Brady’s Leonard Fournette recently reflected on one of those memories. The two shared the backfield for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers during their 2020 Super Bowl victory, and on ‘Good Morning Football’, Fournette shared one of his favorite parts from that experience.
“So for me, his pregame speech was legendary,” Fournette said. “He didn’t drop that many f-bombs, but it was just about your last name being remembered and you just joining a fraternity for life being a Super Bowl winner.”
Brady’s speech clearly got the job done, as the Bucs would go on to defeat the Kansas City Chiefs 31-9. Fournette would rush for 89 yards and a touchdown as well as recording four catches for 46 yards, finding an extra level of motivation from Brady’s speech given his circumstances at the time.
“And especially what I went through that year, I got cut by Jacksonville, so it was just motivation for me and by just him, that speech, made it just made it 10 times more better for me to go out there and perform and to help us win a Super Bowl,” Fournette said.

The win would mark Brady’s seventh Super Bowl victory of his career, as Fournette explained how Brady’s experience and dedication to the process made his words said before the game resonate even more than your average QB.
“I mean he’s won six of them, so he knows what he’s talking about and he knows what it takes. But just the preparation you see from him throughout the week. Like when we played against the Saints, he was like Lenny you’ll get the ball, I’m going to throw the ball to you 10, 11 times. You’re going to be the reason why we win this game. So his craft and how he studied the game, his preparation is second to none. And you see why he’s where he’s at and how he’s become the GOAT,” Fournette said.
Like Brady, Fournette is not a member of the Buccaneers anymore, released by the team on March 17 after three seasons in Tampa Bay. And hopefully, the 28-year-old running back from the Bayou can find a new squad before the upcoming season kicks off.
