Fox NASCAR cameras help reunite Michael Waltrip with lost iPhone ahead of Enjoy Illinois 300
Can Michael Waltrip ever not be a goofball? The former NASCAR driver turned broadcaster lost his phone on the track today. Before the Enjoy Illinois 300, Waltrip did his usual grid walk and talked it up with some of the Cup Series drivers. He didn’t know it, but he lost his iPhone on his way back to the booth.
For 60 years old, Michael Waltrip can still get up and go. He hopped the wall from pit road to the track and was off to the booth. With so little time to get to his spot in the FS1 booth, he had to really keep it moving.
The only problem is, Waltrip didn’t notice his phone had left his pocket in the meantime. If it wasn’t for the lightning delay right after the race started, Waltrip would still be looking for his phone.
Sometimes these delays can be a blessing in disguise. At least for one guy, right?
Michael Waltrip is a funny dude, who always has been and always will be. But it is when he doesn’t even mean to be funny when he does his best work. He hopped that wall and his phone and all his notes went flying out of his pocket.
The best part about this is that the phone was on the track during the start of the race. It just so happened that Tyler Reddick spun out on Lap 2 and Corey LaJoie hit his kill switch. They brought out the caution flag. Then we got a lightning strike.

What a start to this Enjoy Illinois 300.
Michael Waltrip is ready for racing
Just like the rest of the folks watching at home and in the stands, Michael Waltrip is probably ready to see some racing today. This race is oging to be interesting. We got an overtime dash for the finish last year. Kyle Busch was P2 in that race, and he leads from the pole for this one.
As long as we avoid anymore issues like Reddick, LaJoie, the lightning, or Waltrip’s phone – this race will get going. More than 1.5 hours after the start of the race, we are going to go green again with just 6 laps accounted for. There will be many more ahead of these Cup Series drivers as they battle for the win.
Keep an eye on Busch as well as Ryan Blaney. There are also a few strong Toyotas in Denny Hamlin, Martin Truex Jr., and Reddick. Although the 45 will start from th erear after his little spin to begin the race.
Michael Waltrip has his phone back and we are about to finally go racing at World Wide Technology Raceway!
