It is a wild thing to say, but Frankie Muniz is having a hard time finding sponsorship to fill out his ARCA Menards Series schedule. Coming into the season, Muniz was set on being full-time and competing for a championship in the NASCAR development series. He’s second in the points currently, but he might have to cut races from his schedule.

Sponsorship, even for a Hollywood star, is very important. To his credit, Frankie Muniz is doing things the right way. He wants support, wants sponsors to fuel this journey for him. He isn’t putting his name and face on the car and dumping money into the effort.

After a P6 finish at Mid-Ohio on Friday, Muniz talked to Frontstretch about his issues with sponsors.

“It’s a tough position to be in, we’re competitive,” Muniz said. “I’m second in the points, I know I’m a far way away from Love but I’m still second in points. Obviously, I want to finish the championship, I think we can continue to learn, especially if I want to be doing this for a long time, right? I need the races, I need them more than anybody, I have the least amount of experience of anybody here.”

There isn’t anything that he and his team can do except reach out to sponsors and try to make something work. Muniz was unsponsored for the Mid-Ohio race.

“I’m hoping something comes together. Our situation changed, we were good and then we weren’t. So it’s not a position we expected to be in, but that being said it is what it is. I’m hoping that we are at Iowa, that’s the gameplan but it’s not just up to me. There’s a lot of factors that go into it.”

Frankie Muniz making his race dreams come true

Cracking the top-5 has been a challenge for Frankie Muniz this season. He has top-10 finishes almost every week. Just twice this season has he failed to reach the top-10. To his credit, he is second in points and he’s been the best Ford driver all season long.

You can see the passion that Muniz has for racing. He is all-in on making this thing work and getting to the next level of the sport. It really isn’t a Muniz problem when it comes to sponsors. Unfortunately, the ARCA Menards Series has an issue overall with exposure and sponsors. Many young drivers in the series have family money or sponsorship behind them.

In other words, sponsors just don’t see a return on investment when they put money into ARCA. Muniz is not the only driver to ever face this issue, but given his reputation and platform outside of racing, you would think he could get a deal done to get him to Iowa.

I have a feeling if Frankie Muniz moves up to the Truck Series or somehow an Xfinity Series ride – I don’t expect him to have any issues with sponsorship.
