Gabby Thomas dominates Julien Alfred for gold, Brittany Brown gets bronze in Women's 200m final at 2024 Olympics

Gabby Thomas of Team USA has captured the gold medal in the Women’s 200m at the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics, besting Julien Alfred. Fellow Team USA runner Brittany Brown captured the bronze.
Entering the event, Gabby Thomas and Julien Alfred were the favorites. Both women train in Austin, Texas. Thomas ended up with a convincing win, while Alfred came home with the silver medal.
The stiff competition took a blow when it was announced two-time world champion Shericka Jackson would not compete, after she did not turn up for round one. She also previously pulled out of the 100m race.
The track and field portion of the Olympics is always a fan favorite, and it’s continued to live up to expectations in 2024. Congratulations to the winner of the Women’s 200m, Gabby Thomas.

Elsewhere on the track, American sprinter Noah Lyles re-established himself as the fastest man in the world on Sunday, winning the 100-meter dash at the 2024 Paris Olympics. It was Lyles’ first Olympic gold medal in the event, succeeding Italy’s Marcell Jacobs, who took home first place in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

Lyles posted a 9.79-second time in the event — five-thousandths of a second faster than Jamaica’s Kishane Thompson, who finished second in the event. United States’ Fred Kerley followed closely behind, securing a bronze medal.
Lyles was the first American to win gold in the 100m race since Justin Gatlin in 2004. Lyles entered the 2024 Paris Olympics as the favorite in the event after winning the 2023 World Championship. However, following a subpar lead-up to the final, the narrative began to shift.
Lyles blocked out the noise and delivered a single message after his victory to all the viewers back home, cheering him on: “America, I told you. I got this.”
Now, Noah Lyles will be looking to make Team USA proud once again on Wednesday, as he looks to capture gold in the 200m men’s race on Wednesday, Aug. 7 at 2:02 p.m. ET.
