Following some exceptionally high praise from his new quarterback Aaron Rodgers, Garrett Wilson isn’t letting it get to his head. Rodgers told reporters that he believes Wilson, and teammate Sauce Gardner, could be the best wide receiver-cornerback duo in the league.

The Jets QB is a four-time league MVP but Wilson’s own estimation of his production is his most important gauge of success.

“I expect more than all that,” Wilson said, via the New York Post. “For me, it’s always been about the ultimate confidence in myself and putting the work behind it so you know it can happen when the season comes around.

“I’m not buying into all that stuff too much. No one’s expectations for me are higher than my own.”

Last season, Wilson posted 1,103 yards on 83 receptions with four touchdowns. It was an exceptional season for a rookie. However, in comparison to Justin Jefferson last season, he’s still about 700 yards and four touchdowns shy of the top of the leaderboard.

The Jets drafted Wilson out of Ohio State with the No. 10 overall pick in the draft. One season later, they’ve paired him with one of the best quarterbacks in the league. As long as he’s able to stay healthy, Wilson is almost guaranteed to put up bigger numbers in 2023.

Rodgers expresses high hopes for Wilson, Sauce Gardner

Aaron Rodgers is laying it on thick for his new teammates, wide receiver Garrett Wilson and cornerback Sauce Gardner.

The duo showed out in their rookie seasons, capturing the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year Award and Defensive Rookie of the Year Award, respectively. However, the freshly-minted New York Jets quarterback believes their ceilings are much higher than that.

Speaking with the vaunted New York media, the former NFL MVP explained why he believes both Wilson and Gardner can ascend to become the best of the best at their respective positions in the coming years.

“We’ve got, at some point possibly, the best corner and the best receiver in the NFL,” Rodgers said, via the New York Post. “It’s a legit possibility for those two guys.

“Maybe not this upcoming year — I still think Davante [Adams] is in a league of his own — but those two kids are so talented.”

Last season, Rodgers didn’t have a single wideout top 1,000 receiving yards. Allen Lazard posted 788 yards while Christian Watson added another 611 yards.
