Late in the game on Sunday against rival Baltimore, the Pittsburgh Steelers found themselves trailing the Ravens. That’s when quarterback Kenny Pickett hit George Pickens on a deep shot to take the lead and ultimately win the game.

There was less than a minute and a half left in the game and the Steelers were just outside of field goal range when Pickett dropped a ball in over Pickens’ shoulders for a touchdown. After the game, Pickens shared his perspective on the touchdown.

“We came out of the huddle with that play,” George Pickens said, explaining that it wasn’t an audible or a check at the line of scrimmage.

Now in his second season, George Pickens has emerged as the top wide receiver in Pittsburgh. Amid a start to the season where the offense is struggling, he has 22 receptions in five games for 393 yards and two touchdowns.

For most of the game against Baltimore, it was another tough one for Pittsburgh’s offense. Despite that, Pickens sees the resiliency in the team this season.

“I’d probably say more resiliency than anything. The resiliency of the team right then in that last hour was pretty incredible.”

On the final play of the game, George Pickens was surprised to see man coverage with no help over the top. On top of that, he was going up against Marlon Humphrey, who Pickens knew from growing up in Alabama.

“I don’t know about other receivers around the league, but him going to my high school, him being from Alabama, I don’t want to say it’s like a practice feel, but it’s a guy that I know personally. So, it’s a little different.”

The win tied Pittsburgh with Baltimore at 3-2 atop the AFC North going into the team’s bye week.

Former Steelers CB Bryant McFadden says George Pickens needs bigger role in offense

George Pickens’ massive touchdown grab came shortly after a former Steeler and current analyst Bryant McFadden explained that he needs to have a bigger role in the offense than he was getting to start this season.

“I, for one, believe that George Pickens, with his skill set and the type of talented player he is, he should see double-digit targets per game,” Bryant McFadden said. “He is that type of player, but he got involved as well. This is what we need to see moving forward, a sense of consistency.”

Since those comments, George Pickens has had nine receptions in two games. During those games, the Steelers are 1-1.
