George Pickens evaluates how good the Steelers can be in 2023
With the competition in the AFC North, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see some pick the Pittsburgh Steelers to finish in the bottom portion of the division. Even so, their predictions don’t interest WR George Pickens considering what he and his teammates know they can be.
Pickens joined ‘The Rich Eisen Show’ this weekend to discuss Pittsburgh’s upcoming season. He said that, internally, they believe that they can be a great team during this next year in the NFL. Pickens then added that, when it comes to the outside opinions, they’re just going to keep on working towards what they want to achieve on the field.
“I feel like we can be a really, really good unit, a really good team,” Pickens said.
“A lot of people, you know? I can say one thing and do another as well. So a lot of people can say a lot of things. Like that the other teams are going to be good or whatever. But all we’re going to do is just, you know, keep our head down and keep grinding,” said Pickens.
We’re all aware of the consistency of the Pittsburgh Steelers over the past two decades. They haven’t finished below .500 since 2003, meaning they haven’t done so once in the entirety of Mike Tomlin’s tenure with the franchise.
Still, there’s no doubting the division, and the AFC for that matter, has added some legitimate horses to the race. Pittsburgh has to tangle with the likes of Cincinnati, Baltimore, and Cleveland alone in the AFC North alone before you start looking at the other three divisions.
Even so, while they haven’t made a significant playoff run in a few years, the Steelers are a factor year after year. Now, as Pickens says, they’re set on just continuing to grind in order to prove others wrong and, therefore, prove themselves right when it comes to how good they truly can be.
Pickens reveals the best advice Mike Tomlin has given him
The expectations are high for Pittsburgh Steelers WR George Pickens as he enters his second season with the team. As he tries to build on the solid foundation he set in 2022, Pickens has one of the NFL’s most elite head coaches with Mike Tomlin as a mentor and presence in his corner.

Pickens made a recent appearance on ‘The Rich Eisen Show.’ During the interview, he spoke about what advice he has received from Tomlin.
“One of the biggest things he tells me personally is just routine plays routinely,” Pickens said. “Take the mystique out of it. If a ball comes your way? Make the routine catch, make the routine plays.”
Tomlin has made winning a part of his annual routine since becoming. the Steelers’ head man in 2007. He boasts 16 straight seasons with a .500 record or better, including a Super Bowl victory in 2008.
As he looks to lead Pittsburgh back to the mountaintop, Pickens believes that consistency across the board will be able to take the team a long way behind Tomlin.
“I feel like it’ll help the team,” Pickens said. “We make the routine plays, with a lot of other guys making routine plays, that’ll just help us collectively.”
