In the second half of the season, both Georgia and Ole Miss quarterbacks Carson Beck and Jaxson Dart had up and down performances. While Dart’s maintained some solid play, Beck struggled even in wins.
“I don’t answer it, because I don’t think anything’s wrong with him,” Smart said this week. “He hasn’t played perfect, but nobody does. So I’m very comfortable with where Carson is and in terms of his leadership, his practice habits, the things we’re asking him to do, I think he’s doing a good job of those.”

Beck has been his own biggest critic, admitting that he needs to play better following Georgia’s last game where he threw three interceptions. It’s that accountability that Smart expects his signal caller to take while also expecting more from those surrounding him.
“I think he’s going to own that regardless, if you ask a kid that, they’re going to say that,” Smart said. “He does need to play better, we need to coach better, we need to execute better, we need people around him to play better. That’s the ownership that a quarterback takes, and I wouldn’t expect him to answer any questions like that any other way.”
Georgia and Ole Miss are fine at the position, make no mistake. But in a game that has big SEC implications, QB play could determine the outcome.
“He’s gotta graduate sometime,” Arkansas head coach Sam Pittman said, raving about Dark. “You got to get out of there. (He’s) just outstanding. The thing that you don’t really realize with him, or maybe you do. But his ability to run, man, he can throw. He’s got Mahomes-like stuff. I’m comparing the magic throws that he makes because he can make them.
“I mean, you’re going ‘how (did he do that)?’ But where he’s super dangerous as well is that he can run, and he’s very, very competitive. and very, very confident. And he’s the type of guy you want leading your program.”
