Georgia vs. Notre Dame odds: Early point spread released for Sugar Bowl, College Football Playoff quarterfinal

With its first-round victory over Indiana, Notre Dame is moving on in the 12-team College Football Playoff bracket. The Fighting Irish cruised to the 27-17 victory on Friday to set up a Sugar Bowl matchup against Georgia, and the early point spread has been released.
Notre Dame opened as a 1.5-point favorite over Georgia, according to FanDuel. However, the spread quickly flipped and UGA became a 1.5-point favorite. The over-under also opened at 46.5 and dropped to 45.5.
The Fighting Irish’s defense held strong against Indiana, keeping the Hoosiers out of the end zone until the 1:27-mark in the fourth quarter. The rushing defense was notably staunch, holding IU to 53 yards on the ground – far below their regular-season average of 173.58.
On offense, Notre Dame shook off a shaky start when Riley Leonard threw an interception on its second play. He turned around to complete 23 of 32 passes for 201 yards and a touchdown while adding 30 rushing yards and a touchdown on the ground. Jeremiyah Love led the Fighting Irish attack with 108 yards on eight carries – including a 98-yard touchdown in the first quarter.

One of the big questions for the Sugar Bowl will be Georgia’s plan at quarterback. Carson Beck is expected to miss the game, as On3’s Pete Nakos first reported, and his status is in question for the entire College Football Playoff after his injury in the SEC Championship.
Gunner Stockton would be in line to start in Beck’s place, and that is the expectation for the Sugar Bowl. He took over in the SEC title game against Texas for the second half, completing 12 of 16 passes for 71 yards to help keep Georgia in front en route to the 22-19 victory.
Kirby Smart offered the latest on Beck’s status during an appearance on ESPN College GameDay Friday night. He confirmed his quarterback is weighing his options for surgery, but the program is “hoping for the best.”
“He and his family have been in Jacksonville with his team, his staff and really, group of people in his family, trying to pursue the best options to go forward,” Smart said on ESPN College GameDay. “But we’ve talked to him, we’ve communicated with him. We’re hoping for the best.”
