Giants QB Daniel Jones says he doesn't mind if Brian Daboll coaches him hard

One lingering moment from Monday Night Football was an exchange between Giants coach Brian Daboll and quarterback Daniel Jones.
The quarterback had just thrown an interception in the red zone, missing intended receiver Darren Waller who was waiting for the catch in the end zone. Seahawks rookie cornerback Devon Witherspoon returned the interception for a 97-yard pick-six. Just when the Giants thought they were getting back into the game, Jones committed such a significant mistake that the game was de facto over with right then. Seattle eventually celebrated the 24-3 victory.
Daboll tried to talk to Jones on the sideline, but the quarterback kept walking. Cameras then found Daboll looking at an iPad, presumably with the replay of the pick six. He tossed the tablet Jones’ way. You could feel the coach’s frustration and the quarterback’s anxiety seep through the TV screen.
A day after the loss, Brian Daboll said he wasn’t aiming the tablet at Daniel Jones.
“No, I wouldn’t throw a tablet there,” Daboll said. “I just tossed it to the side because obviously it was a little bit of frustration, but, no, I wouldn’t throw a tablet at him.”
But by mid-week, the QB says it’s necessary to forget some of the game details.
“You’ve got to put it away immediately and get back out there and play ball,” Jones told reporters Wednesday afternoon. “Can’t afford to dwell on any of that very long. Obviously, after the game, you try to learn from it and see where you went wrong.”

And Jones said he didn’t mind being coached hard by Daboll. The clip of the exchange went viral Monday night and seemed to be a topic of every NFL water cooler discussion Tuesday morning.

“I mean, we were all frustrated. Just a costly mistake,” Jones said. “I can’t afford to do that. We were all frustrated and that’s part of it.”
The Seahawks notched 11 quarterback sacks, which tied a team record, including 10 of Jones. With that sort of offensive line play, few quarterbacks can be successful. Some of the issues are because of injuries. The offensive line, especially, can be thrown off if only one guy is missing. The Giants had five linemen who either missed practice on Wednesday, or who were limited.
“Got to go out there and coach the guys that are out there and do a good job with that,” Daboll told reporters. “Then get them ready to play.”
Daboll said the Giants do have enough healthy bodies. Now, he needs to get them moving in unison.
Next up is a road date against Miami. The Dolphins were the hottest team in the NFL until last Sunday. That’s when the Buffalo Bills blew them out, 48-20. But any team desiring to be competitive with Miami needs to score points. That’s not something the Giants have done well to open the season.
