Giants QB plans include Russel Wilson, surprise name after signing Jameis Winston

The Giants inked Jameis Winston to a two-year deal on Friday, adding the former first overall pick to their quarterback room. Many believed that meant the end of them courting Russell Wilson and Aaron Rodgers, but ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler doesn’t believe that’s the case.
According to the NFL analyst, New York could still sign another free agent quarterback, and then draft their future at the position later in April. During an appearance on SportsCenter, Fowler explained where Wilson could fit in with the Giants, and how the franchise could end up with two free agent quarterbacks when the cycle comes to an end.
“Russell Wilson, he’s still got a few [options]. Not totally off Pittsburgh’s list. Still in the mix with the Giants. He’s looked at the Giants as a viable option for a while now. Despite that Winston signing, my sense is the Giants have looked at signing two free agent quarterbacks, and then they can still draft one,” Fowler explained. “They’re really just starting from scratch on their quarterback room. Cleveland still has interest in Russell Wilson. So, several options still in the air for the former Pro Bowler.
“The key with a lot of these, players with, you know, pedigree and a little bit of age, you’ve got to work out a contract that sort of commiserates with their skill-set. That’s going to be an issue with some of these teams. But he’s going to have options. He should have one of the seats in these musical chairs at quarterbacks.”

In addition to Wilson, Fowler made sure to point out a bit of a surprise — Rodgers isn’t totally out of the mix for the Giants either: “[Yes] Or Rodgers, actually. I was told,” Fowler responded, regarding whether New York would sign another free agent quarterback. “They’re still not totally out of it on Rodgers. They’re not the favorite, and they kind of know it. I think the Giants are getting a little impatient. But still in the midst.”
That would be a pretty wild turn of events, and an entertaining quarterback room for the Giants. Imagine Rodgers, Winston, Tommy DeVito and potentially Shedeur Sanders chopping it up in 2025? It might not lead to a ton of wins next season, but it would be interesting, to say the least.
At the moment, Aaron Rodgers is still expected by many to land with the Steelers, but the Giants aren’t completely out of it at the moment. Time will tell where he chooses to go, but until the enigmatic quarterback makes a decision, anything is possible.
