Giants QB Tyrod Taylor to start over Tommy DeVito vs Rams
Ahead of their Week 17 matchup against the Los Angeles Rams, Brian Daboll and the New York Giants have made their decision on who their starting quarterback will be.
The options included veteran Tyrod Taylor, and the feel-good story Tommy DeVito. After the latter struggled in the first half against the Philadelphia Eagles on Christmas Day, Taylor came in and almost led the Giants to an upset victory over their NFC East rivals.
Now, Daboll and company have chosen to stick with Taylor. He’ll be the starting quarterback for Sunday’s clash with the Rams at MetLife Stadium.
“And Tyrod Taylor takes over as the Giants’ starting QB on Sunday vs. the Rams,” ESPN’s Adam Schefter posted on X, formerly know as Twitter, after Daboll made things official on Wednesday.
DeVito took the NFL by storm, winning three consecutive starts as an undrafted rookie out of Illinois by way of Syracuse. His biggest moment of greatness came during a Monday Night Football start against the Green Bay Packers, where he led the Giants to victory via a game-winning field goal as time expired.

However, he didn’t play with the same gumption against the New Orleans Saints the following week, and looked gun-shy against the Eagles on Christmas. While Taylor wasn’t perfect against Philadelphia, he played with some extra decisiveness, and gave the Giants a better chance to win.
Some believed DeVito would take the starting gig back over, as Taylor may not be with the Giants in 2024. At least with DeVito the Giants could see if he could be a competent backup quarterback for the team next season. Of course, Taylor could always return on a new deal, but he may price himself out of New York’s budget.
Nevertheless, Taylor has commanded the respect of the Giants locker room, and he’s fluent in the way Daboll likes to run his offense. He’ll give New York a chance to pull an upset against the Rams in Week 17, and against the Eagles in a Christmas Day rematch come Week 18 in East Rutherford.
Time will tell what Tommy DeVito’s future in the NFL is, but he’ll be looking to learn from Tyrod Taylor over the next two weeks. Who knows, maybe we haven’t seen the last of Tommy Cutlets this season just yet.
