Giants quarterback Tommy DeVito takes scary hit in first half vs Saints
New York Giants quarterback Tommy DeVito took a scary hit on Sunday in the team’s matchup against the New Orleans Saints. Down 7-3, DeVito was leading the Giants on a drive past midfield when he took of on a sprint and was tackled hard, hitting his head on the turf.
Playing it safe after his reaction on the turf, the Giants sent the starter to the blue medical tent for evaluation. Backup quarterback Tyrod Taylor checked into the game to finish the drive, but it resulted in a field goal, making it 7-6 Saints at halftime. Due to an injury to kicker Randy Bullock, punter Jamie Gillan had to check in to make the 40-yard field goal attempt.
Before his exit from the game, DeVito went 9-for-16 for 73 yards in the first half. He also took four sacks for a loss of 33 yards while adding four rushed for 36 yards.
DeVito earns first NFC honor for Week 14 win
DeVito, the undrafted rookie free agent, helped lead his team to a 24-22 upset of the Packers last week. His performance earned him NFC player of the week honors, along with Cowboys kicker Brandon Aubrey and Vikings linebacker Ivan Pace.

Pace made 13 tackles with a sack in Minnesota’s 3-0 win over the Raiders last week while Aubrey hit on field goals of 60, 59, 45 and 50 yards in Dallas’s win over the Eagles. It was the first time in NFL history that a kicker made multiple field goals of at least 59 yards in the same game.
Against the Packers, DeVito had a career day. He threw 17 completions on 20 pass attempts for a career-high 81% completion rate. He had one touchdown pass and added 71 yards on 10 runs as well. So far this season, the rookie has 855 passing yards, eight passing touchdowns, two interceptions and 154 rushing yards with one rushing touchdown for the Giants.
