Tommy DeVito landed in a dream scenario despite going undrafted coming out of Syracuse.

A Cedar Grove, New Jersey, native, DeVito was signed to the New York Giants’ (2-7) practice squad. And so, DeVito made what he called a no-brainer decision: The 25-year-old moved back in with his parents at his childhood home — nine miles away from the Giants’ facility and MetLife Stadium.

“It was a no-brainer for me,” DeVito said this week, via ESPN. “Everything that I need is there at the house. The decision was made since this level of football is stressful for a rookie, especially from the quarterback position. There is a lot going on, a lot of meetings. So everything outside of football is handled by my family.

“I don’t have to worry about laundry, what I’m eating for dinner, chicken cutlets and all that is waiting for me when I get there. My mom still makes my bed. Everything is handled for me. Honestly, I don’t even know if I could find a place closer to here than where I live. It takes me 12 minutes to get here.”

DeVito’s teammates appear to approve of his decision-making as a rookie in the NFL.

“That is the greatest. You know what, smart!” offensive lineman Justin Pugh said. “Saving his money. Genius! That’s the one thing I’d say from a financial standpoint. Your mom helping with your wash, making sure you’re up on time, no distractions, unbelievable.”

Tommy DeVito to get opportunity of a lifetime amid injuries to Giants QBs

DeVito, who was elevated to the active roster following the injury to backup quarterback Tyrod Taylor, will get his first-career start in the Week 10 road tilt against the Dallas Cowboys (5-3) Sunday. DeVito is likely to remain the starter for at least the next three weeks, with Taylor (ribs) and starting quarterback Daniel Jones (knee) both on injured reserve.

Just the 10th undrafted quarterback since 2000 to start a game in the NFL, DeVito has an opportunity to write a “hell of a story,” running back Saquon Barkley said.

“I literally told him [Thursday], it could be a hell of a story. Let’s make it a hell of a story,” Barkley said. “Undrafted guy from Jersey. Lives in Jersey with his parents; I didn’t know that part. Gets to be starting quarterback for the New York Football Giants.

“The perfect story.”
