New York Giants fans are worried about Saquon Barkley and whether he’ll reach a new deal before training camp. However, there should be no concern about whether the running back is keeping in shape as sides negotiate his contract.

This, NFL fans, is a video of a player in perfect shape. Saquon Barkley posted a video of a recent workout that shows him squatting 585 pounds. The NFL also shared the video on its official account, referring to Barkley as “SaQuads.”

We know it’s Friday and everyone is prepping for a really long Fourth of July party. But watching this video might put you in the mood to head to the weight room. Or you can check it out from the comfort of your couch. Your choice.

Next deadline for Saquon Barkley, Giants is July 17

Now, about those negotiations. The Giants placed the franchise tag on Saquon Barkley back in March. That comes with an offer of a $10.1 million payout for the fall. Barkley was the No. 2 player selected in the 2018 NFL Draft. He’s exceeded 1,000-plus rushing yards in three of his five seasons with the Giants.

Barkley desires a long-term contract. And to get that point across, he’s skipped OTAs and minicamp. The Giants and the running back have until July 17th to figure this out. If there’s no deal, Barkley still can report to camp and play. But if there’s no deal by the 10th week, then Barkley is ineligible to play for the season.

But Saquon Barkley is mulling whether he should skip camp if there’s no deal.

“I think that’s a conversation,” he told reporters earlier this month. “Like you said, that’s a card I could play. That comes up in conversation if something don’t get done by July 17. … We got a little bit of time in between there. When that date comes up, then I’ll have to sit down with my team, sit down with my family and make decisions. See what we’re going to do. What’s the next game plan? What’s the next move?”

But as we said, Barkley is staying in shape. He also recently shared evidence of his ab work. It’s OK to have ab envy.

Moving on, Barkley isn’t the only big-name back who is balking at the franchise tag. Raiders star Josh Jacobs, who led the league in rushing last year, also sat out OTAs and minicamp.

“Love the kid, love the player, love the person,” Raiders coach Josh McDaniels said of Jacobs when he no-showed minicamp. “And I look forward to when I see him.”

Let’s circle back to Saquon Barkley. The tailback was running more drills earlier this week, showing off his cuts and hops. He finished off the work by sprinting up a hill. Yes, he’s a show off and we’re here for it all.
