Styles make fights, especially with how the bracket can break in the NCAA Tournament. That’ll apply to one of the games in the Round of 32 this weekend between No. 1 Houston and No. 8 Gonzaga.

Houston (31-4) again showed why they’re one of the No. 1 seeds with a nearly doubled-up outcome in their first game with a 78-40 win over No. 16 SIU Edwardsville. Four Cougars got to double figures while holding SIUE to just 30.6% shooting overall and only 8.3% from three. Now, they’ll play for a sixth-straight spot in the second weekend.

Gonzaga (26-8) was then just as dominant in their opening win at 89-68 over No. 9 Georgia. The Bulldogs got up double-digits immediately and led for the duration, and by as much as 26, by shooting 55% overall and 60% from distance. They too will now look to keep a streak alive in playing for their fourteenth consecutive berth in the second weekend.

Again, styles make fights, especially when you’re talking about coaching as good as that of Kelvin Sampson and Mark Few. Which way this game leans will better determine who’s going to move on with Houston having the best scoring defense with some of the best defensive efficiency in the country while Gonzaga has the second-best scoring offense with top-ten offensive efficiency in the nation.
