CeeDee Lamb has been getting most of the attention in Dallas but the Cowboys are working on a contract extension for Dak Prescott too. Prescott is entering the final year of his deal and has the ability to hit free agency next offseason if there is no agreement between the two. Dallas would have to pay upwards of $60 million annually to keep their franchise quarterback.

While no deal has been struck yet, Prescott claims there are “good conversations” occurring between the two. Prescott is represented by Todd France, the same agent who got the last contract extension done. “Confidence” was a word used by Prescott, believing something will get done.

“Good conversations are going on,” Prescott said Thursday. “Lots of good things are going on there. I’ve got a lot of confidence in my guys and these guys in getting things done.”

No specific timeline on when the deal could get done was not provided by the quarterback. Prescott seems to not care when it does, citing a couple of weeks or sometime during the regular season. For now, conversations are just heading in the right direction.

“I’m not putting that much thought into hoping it gets done now, hoping it gets done in a couple of weeks, during the season or whenever it happens,” Prescott said. “I just know conversations are on the right way.”

Dallas opens the year on Sept. 8 against the Cleveland Browns. Who knows, by then, Prescott could have an extension done and his future secured with the Cowboys.

Dak Prescott returns to practice after ankle soreness

Dallas Cowboys starting quarterback Dak Prescott was able to return to practice on Tuesday after sitting out Friday with ankle soreness. Due to his lingering ankle soreness, which he’s dealt with since his gruesome injury in 2021, Prescott got a bit of extra time off last week. The team was already planning to sit him for the first preseason game of the year against the Rams, and the ankle gave them even more of a reason to keep their QB1 in bubble wrap.

Tuesday’s practice is a walkthrough for Dallas before the team welcomes the Rams back for another joint practice this week. The two teams will scrimmage again after LA settled the score in the preseason game 13-12 behind the effort of Rams backup QB Stetson Bennett.

Back in pads on Wednesday, Prescott will be a full participant, according to head coach Mike McCarthy.
