Adrian Amos is plenty familiar with Matthew Stafford. The two faced off in the NFC North for years — Stafford with the Detroit Lions and Amos with the Chicago Bears and, currently, the Green Bay Packers.

The two will face off this week when Stafford’s new team, the Los Angeles Rams, take on the Packers in Green Bay on Sunday. Amos had an interesting take on Stafford’s impressive 2021 season on Wednesday, even taking a shot at Stafford’s old team.

“Matt Stafford [has] always been good,” Amos said. “He just played for the Lions.”

Ouch.

Stafford is having a great year in his first season with the Rams. He currently ranks fourth in the NFL with 3,014 passing yards to lead a staunch Los Angeles offensive attack. Los Angeles is 7-2 this year, second only to Arizona in the NFC West.

To put it in perspective, Stafford topped 3,000 yards nine times during his 12-year stay in Detroit. But the Lions only made the playoffs three times with Stafford under center, losing in the Wild Card game each time.

This year, with Jared Goff under center and a new coach at the helm, the Lions are 0-9-1.

Stafford and the Rams take on Amos and the Packers Sunday at 4:25 p.m. ET on FOX.

Matthew Stafford: ‘Everybody on our team carves out their role’

Stafford was given another weapon earlier this month when Odell Beckham Jr. signed with the Rams. Adding him to the wide receiver room is quite a boost for the Los Angeles offense, which already has the NFL’s leading receiver in Cooper Kupp.

Was Stafford surprised Beckham chose LA? Let’s just say he’s seen a lot in 13 years in the league.

“Nothing really surprises me anymore, to tell you the truth,” Stafford said. “I know that this is an enticing city to play in. This is an enticing an organization to come play for. We have a bunch of other great players on this team — AD, Jalen, Cooper, all those guys. Great players. So it’s exciting for other people to come in and play with those guys. So I’m just happy to be a part of it.”

Stafford also explained the star receiver’s role with the Rams going forward.

“I’ve played with a bunch of good [receivers] in my career, and he’s up there,” Stafford said of Beckham. “He’s a talented guy. It’s one of those things where everybody on our team carves out their role. They do a great job of figuring out what that role is going to be and going out there and proving it — both on the practice field and in games — and then getting those opportunities. I know he’ll do the same. There’s a lot of time between now and that. We’ve just got to make sure that we’re on the same page, go out there and play ball.”
