Green Bay Packers announce roster move ahead of 49ers playoff matchup

The Green Bay Packers or preparing to take on the San Francisco 49ers in a rematch of one of the most exciting games of this past NFL season, in the NFC divisional round of the playoffs. But as they continue their preparation, the team has announced a roster move that some are scratching their head.

According to general manager Brian Gutekunst, the Packers have released defensive lineman Kingsley Keke on Wednesday.

Keke Is green bays 5th round pick from the 2019 NFL draft. The six-foot-three defensive end played for Texas A&M from 2015 to 2018 before being drafted by the Packers. Keke showed an increase in production from his rookie year to his second year in the league. In his 2020 season, he played in 15 games, starting nine of them, and recorded 18 total tackles, nine solo, two passes defended, or sacks, and a forced fumble. This season Keke maintained the pace of production from last year. However, he was limited in playing time throughout the season for various reasons. The former Aggie played in nine games, starting six of them, but was able to record 19 tackles, seven solo, 2.5 sacks, one pass deflection, and one forced fumble.

It is unclear why the Packers have elected to part ways with their defensive lineman, but one thing is for certain, it will definitely impact their rotation come Saturday.

Packers provide update on Cobb

The Green Bay Packers received good news on the status of one of Aaron Rodgers’ most reliable targets heading into this weekend’s playoff game vs. the San Francisco 49ers.

“Roughly 7 weeks after he had surgery to repair a core muscle issue, #Packers WR Randall Cobb is expected to play this week, per coach Matt LaFleur. Another injury boost,” Ian Rappaport tweeted on Wednesday.

Before the injury, Cobb was finally carving out a role in the offense. In 11 games. he hauled in 28 receptions for 375 yards and five touchdowns.

After earning the No. 1 seed and earning a bye week in the playoffs, the Green Bay Packers are set to host the San Francisco 49ers in the Divisional round. The winner will have the honor of playing in the NFC Championship for the chance to appear in the Super Bowl.

Despite some time off, there are still some injuries Green Bay is dealing with. They released their injury report on Tuesday, with a few key players not fully participating in practice and one not practicing at all.
