Green Bay Packers bring back wide receiver Geronimo Allison for team workout

The Packers could be adding another piece to their receiver room in former four-year player Geronimo Allison, who worked out with the team. Allison began his career with the Packers as an undrafted free agent in 2016, and played for the team for four seasons before signing with the Detroit Lions in 2020. Now, according to a Tuesday report, Allison could be returning to Green Bay if they decide to sign him to a new deal.

“Former Packers wide receiver Geronimo Allison was back in Green Bay for a workout with the team today,” explained NFL Network‘s Mike Garafolo.

Allison entered the league after going undrafted in the 2016 NFL Draft out of Illinois, where he played two seasons prior to making his leap to the NFL. As a rookie, he began the 2016 season with the Packers on the practice squad before being elevated to the active roster midway through the year. In Week 8 against the Atlanta Falcons, Allison caught his first NFL pass — a touchdown from Aaron Rodgers.

Over his four seasons with the Packers previously, Allison caught 89 passes for 1,045 yards and six touchdowns. In 2020, he signed with the Detroit Lions before opting out from the season due to the COVID-19 pandemic. He finished his time in Detroit without a reception, appearing in three games for the Lions.

The Packers also brought in a handful of other players for a workout with the team on Tuesday with an apparent focus on the offensive side of the ball. Four offensive linemen and two wideouts were part of the tryout — wide receiver Danny Davis, center Chris Ownes, tackles Sage Doxtater, Derek Kerstetter and Sam Schlueter.
