Green Bay Packers cut one, add familiar face to practice squad
The Green Bay Packers just switched up their practice squad a bit. The team announced Thursday that they are releasing safety Mike Brown from the practice squad and signing wide receiver Travis Fulgham, who spent time on their practice squad earlier this year.
Here was the Packers’ description and bio for their new signing Fulgham from their team site:
“Fulgham (6-2, 211), a third-year player out of Old Dominion, spent the first few weeks of the season on the Packers’ practice squad before being released earlier this week. He was originally drafted by the Detroit Lions in the sixth round (No. 184 overall) of the 2019 NFL Draft. Fulgham spent time on the Lions’ active roster and practice squad as a rookie, appearing in three games.
“In 2020, he spent some time during training camp with the Packers before joining the Eagles, where he was on the practice squad and active roster, playing in 13 games with eight starts and recording 38 receptions for 539 yards (14.2 avg.) and four TDs. Fulgham was released by the Eagles after training camp in 2021 and went on to spend time on the practice squads of the Miami Dolphins and Denver Broncos while also appearing in one game for Denver. He will wear No. 86 for the Packers.”

So really, a one-year wonder. Fulgham popped for over 500 yards in 2020, with Carson Wentz as his majority QB no less. But otherwise, no reception in either of his other two seasons, 2019 and 2021. What a strange career. And a career that is still ongoing, now that he’s with the Packers.
Given Green Bay’s lack of established receivers and Aaron Rodgers’ issues with the WR group in Week 1, Fulgham could very well earn a roster spot a few weeks down the line. Another fresh start for him and hopefully another one, somewhere else, for Mike Brown.
