Packers GM Brian Gutekunst on keeping Aaron Rodgers, Davante Adams
The Green Bay Packers continue evaluating the future with uncertainty surrounding quarterback Aaron Rodgers and wide receiver Davante Adams once again. With questions about another championship run or potential rebuild on the table, general manager Brian Gutekunst spoke about the team’s desire to retain its biggest stars.
During a press conference, Brian Gutekunst spoke about the Packers approach to keeping Aaron Rodgers and Davante Adams and how their age factors into the decision.
“One of the things we look at specifically for guys who are Hall of Fame-caliber players, I think there’s a lot of production into their 30s,” Gutekunst said. “It’s like anything, there’s risk either way. There’s a lot of risk if we don’t have Davante Adams and what that does to our football team as well.”
Gutekunst also expressed a belief that Green Bay can continue to succeed regardless of the outcome of both situations, in large part thanks to a dedicated front office staff.
“I feel very confident about that,” Gutekunst said. “I gotta give a lot of credit to (Director of Football Operations Russ Ball). He’s done an excellent job and we’ve worked through a lot of different scenarios. There’s always challenges but having good players here you work around that. I think having those guys here certainly makes us a very good football team.”
Packers awaiting Aaron Rodgers decision
The Aaron Rodgers timeline is heating up. According to a Thursday report from Diana Russini of ESPN, the Packers star quarterback will be informing Green Bay of his decision soon.

Additionally, Russini added that there are multiple teams with offers on the table for Rodgers. Of course, that comes into play once Rodgers informs the Packers of their decision. Then, Green Bay either plays welcomes Rodgers back to their franchise, or finds a dance partner for an unprecedented move.
Regardless, Green Bay will receive a haul for Rodgers. Coming off his second-straight NFL Most Valuable Player Award, the star quarterback has a ridiculous price-tag. However, Russini is reporting multiple teams are willing to match it.
Aaron Rodgers has been building to this decision for over a year. As you can see, we are almost at the finish line. His future will be determined sooner rather than later.
After the Rodgers decision comes down, the Packers will face the dilemma set forth by free agent wide receiver Davante Adams. If the quarterback returns, they will certainly do everything they can to keep him and appease Rodgers. However, a departure could kick off a rebuild and leave them more concerned with cap space and capital than signing a franchise tag or extension.
