Report: Green Bay Packers have reached out to Ryan Tannehill amid Jordan Love injury
The Green Bay Packers have reached out to veteran free agent quarterback Ryan Tannehill, according to Dianna Russini of The Athletic.
While there is no deal as of now, it’s clear the Packers have a bit of a decision to make after Jordan Love suffered an MCL sprain in Friday’s 34-29 Week 1 defeat to the Philadelphia Eagles. Love fortunately avoided an ACL injury but is still expected to miss between three to six weeks.
Tom Pelissero of NFL Network refuted Russini’s report, saying the Packers have not reached out to Tannehill, and don’t plan to pursue any veteran quarterbacks. Green Bay expects Love to be back on the sooner end of the three to six-week timeframe and in the meantime, is focused on getting Malik Willis and Sean Clifford prepared to play.
FOX Sports insider Jay Glazer said Sunday the Packers plan to start Willis in the Week 2 home tilt against the Indianapolis Colts. Willis, acquired by Green Bay from the Titans in late August, has just three starts under his belt.

Ryan Tannehill awaiting ‘right situation’ to sign with NFL team
Tannehill, 36, spent the last five seasons with the Tennessee Titans, seeing stretches of both success and underperformance. He led the Titans to a 39-24 record under center, earning a Pro Bowl nod in 2019. He started eight games this past season, splitting time with 2023 second round pick Will Levis. Tannehill struggled, throwing for 1,616 yards, four touchdowns and seven interceptions.
Tannehill told Russini in July that to sign for another team, “it would have to be right situation.”
“Maybe a guy goes down and a team gives me a call, you never know what’s going to happen, right?” Tannehill said. “So, just keeping the options open. But at the same time, not waiting on pins and needles for that call. I’m enjoying where I’m at… where my family, life is. You know, if something comes up, then fantastic. I’ll jump wholeheartedly into it. But at the same time, not purely just waiting on that.”
