The Green Bay Packers have hired Ole Miss senior player personnel analyst Micheal Spurlock to join their coaching staff, per On3’s Matt Zenitz. He is set to serve as the quality control coach in Green Bay.

Spurlock, a former Rebels quarterback, had been with the program since 2020. Prior to that he was an assistant with the Dallas Cowboys, UTSA and Southeastern Louisiana. He spent his sophomore season at Ole Miss playing behind future NFL quarterback Eli Manning.

Spurlock made the transition to receiver in the NFL, where he enjoyed a nine-year career playing mostly on special teams. He played for a number of different teams during that span including the Arizona Cardinals, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Detroit Lions.

With Spurlock helping, Ole Miss finished as the top-ranked offense in the SEC and sixth in the country. Quarterback Matt Corral took the nation by storm to ultimately become one of the top prospects in the upcoming NFL Draft. No doubt Spurlock played a role in that development.

The 39-year-old coach is set to join a Packers squad coming off of a 13-4 season that saw them claim the top seed in the NFC playoffs. However, they would lose to San Francisco in the divisional round, once again ending the season short of the Super Bowl.

Following the season, there was much speculation about whether quarterback Aaron Rodgers would return to Green Bay. That ended Tuesday, as it was reported Rodgers agreed to a four-year, $200 million deal with the Packers that made him the highest-paid player in league history. Green Bay also used the franchise tag designation to bring back receiver Davante Adams, Rodgers’ top target over the past few seasons.

This past season, Rodgers claimed his second straight MVP award as he threw for 4,115 yards and ranked third in the NFL with a 68.9% completion percentage. He also threw for a league-low four interceptions and 37 touchdowns — giving him one of the best touchdown-to-interception ratios of the year.

With the return of Rodgers and Adams, Micheal Spurlock joins a Packers coaching staff with a Super Bowl on their minds. Green Bay hasn’t been to the big game since 2010, when it defeated Pittsburgh in the only title of Rodgers’ career.
