Green Bay Packers insider reveals latest on Jaire Alexander negotiations

With the 2025 NFL Draft in the rearview, the Packers are looking to get back to the playoffs and compete for a Super Bowl this coming season after welcoming the football world to Green Bay this past weekend. Someone who could help them accomplish that goal is star defensive back Jaire Alexander.
At the moment, the former first round pick’s future is murky with the franchise. According to ESPN’s Rob Demovsky, the two sides are speaking about a possible resolution, which could include a reconciliation to where Alexander plays for the Packers in 2025 after all, something that many didn’t expect over the course of the offseason.
There’s multiple options on the table, including the Packers releasing Alexander outright, trading the defender or him returning to Green Bay, per Demovsky. Which one ends up coming to fruition remains to be seen.
Earlier this offseason, Demovsky reported the team was willing to move Alexander. Green Bay has had trade conversations centered around the Pro Bowl cornerback and were open to moving him “for the right price,” per Ian Rapoport of NFL Network. However, those talks have since cooled off.
All told, Alexander is one of, if not the most coveted cornerback in the game. The 28-year-old continues to play at a high level when he’s on the field. But staying on the field has been his issue.
He played in just four games in 2021, and seven in 2023. Alexander missed 10 more this past season, notably tearing the PCL in his right knee in Week 8. He underwent arthroscopic knee surgery in early January to relieve his pain and swelling.

Still, Alexander was effective in the seven games he played in, recording 16 tackles (15 tackles solo), two interceptions, a pick-six and seven pass defenses. Alexander graded out as Pro Football Focus‘ No. 24 cornerback (75.2 overall grade).
Signed through the 2026 season, Alexander has a $25.48 million cap hit in 2025, per Spotrac. The Packers are on the hook for $19.1 million in dead cap if they trade Alexander.
Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst said at the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis that Alexander has not requested a trade: “He loves Green Bay,” Gutekunst said, via Tom Silverstein of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. “He has a lot of energy when he’s in the building. He’s still around. We’ll work through that and see where that leads.”
As for if Alexander is in the team’s plans for 2025? “We’ll see, we’re working through that,” Gutekunst added. “We’ll work through that as we go along.” Time will tell, but it seems as if there’s a shot Jaire Alexander remains with the franchise moving forward.
