Green Bay Packers: Kylin Hill fueled by seventh round selection in NFL Draft
Kylin Hill was a seventh round selection in the 2021 NFL Draft. As he begins his career with the Green Bay Packers, he’ll never let anyone forget it.
“256,” the running back tweeted out following another impressive preseason performance. Of course, Hill was the 256th pick overall in the NFL Draft.
“That’s my daily motivation,” Hill said, per the team’s website. “Seventh-round pick, that’s just my daily grind, my motivation. When I’m tired, that’s what I think about, just to prove a lot of people wrong in my life.”
For the second consecutive game, Hill scored a touchdown for the Packers. In a crowded backfield featuring Aaron Jones and AJ Dillon, it’s been the former Mississippi State Bulldog shining through the preseason.
Following the game, the seventh round pick gave credit to his offensive line.
“I have to give it to my O-line. I had one guy to miss,” Hill said. “Once I had that one guy to miss, I saw the sideline and I saw the guy at the goal line. I was like, ‘This is my opportunity. I have to win this one-on-one battle.’ I just put my head down to push it in and that’s what I did.”
If Hill’s impressive ability continues to be on display for the NFL to see, he’s going to make some front offices very angry they passed on him.
Kylin Hill: Senior Bowl Standout
Prior to the NFL Draft, Hill impressed many people during his Senior Bowl week, where his pass catching skills were on fine display. Check out the write-up below, courtesy of The NFL Draft Bible.
“We always knew that Kylin Hill was an exceptional pass catcher. This week proved that and then some. We could only watch him in three games this year; Hill can catch the ball smoothly and move the ball downfield.

“Hill showed that he has the skills to be a sleeper in this draft. In pass protection, Hill was very impressive when dealing with the bigger linebackers. He didn’t back away from the challenge and went face-to-face with the defender and kept them at bay. Hill looked very good despite the prolonged time off this past season.”
Kylin Hill’s career at Mississippi State
While in college, Hill demonstrated his excellent ability as a pass catcher. Against LSU in 2020, he broke the school record for receiving yards in a single-game by a running back with 158 receiving yards.
He also tied Eric Moulds for the school record for the most catches in a single game, when he caught 15 passes at Kentucky. His 15 receptions in a single game currently rank 6th all-time in SEC history.
His best season at Mississippi State came in 2019, when he rushed for 1,350 yards and 11 touchdowns on 242 carries. He was the only SEC running back in 2019 to average over 100 rushing yards per game (he averaged 103.8).
For his entire Bulldog career, Hill rushed for 2,525 rushing yards, while racking up 16 touchdowns on the ground. As a pass catcher, he hauled in 67 total catches in his career for 631 receiving yards and six receiving touchdowns.
Evidently, Kylin Hill was far better than a seventh round talent. Now, he’s using it as motivation to make the rest of the league pay.
