The Green Bay Packers have made a few roster moves in preparation for next week’s game against the San Francisco 49ers. According to NFL insider Adam Caplan, these are the moves made by the Packers as of Tuesday.

Green Bay has signed safety Sean Davis and defense lineman RJ McIntosh to the practice squad. They have also released tight end Jace Sternberger from the main roster. Finally, defensive lineman Abdullah Anderson and offensive lineman Jacob Capra have been released from the practice squad.

Sternberger was a third-round pick for the Packers in the 2019 NFL Draft. In his two years with the Packers, he has only appeared in 18 games. In those games, he caught just 12 passes for 114 yards and one touchdown. Green Bay has four other tight-ends listed on their depth chart ahead of Sternberger. The third-year tight end was just cleared to play after serving a two-game suspension. The league suspended him for two games for violating their substance policy.

Packers add defensive help

Sean Davis is a safety out of the University of Maryland that was selected by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the second round of the 2016 NFL Draft. Davis spent the first three years of his career with the Steelers but was injured a good amount of his time there. After departing from Pittsburgh, he has signed with three practice squads. For his career, he has 259 total tackles, 21 pass deflections, five interceptions, and one forced fumble.

McIntosh was a fifth-round pick of the New York Giants back in 2018. He spent just three years with the Giants before being released this offseason. He was then claimed by the New Orleans Saints after being released but New Orleans released him during the day cut down to the 53-man roster requirement. McIntosh has a total of 18 tackles and two sacks in his NFL career.

The Packers are looking to bolster their defense after Monday night’s game against the Detroit Lions. The Green Bay defense allowed Detroit to stick around longer than the team would have liked. In the first half, they allowed touchdown passes to TJ Hockenson and Quintez Cephus. They let the Lions hang stride for stride with their offense and went into the locker room tied at 14-14. In the second half, they locked in and allow just three points for the rest of the game.

This week’s matchup against the San Francisco 49ers will be another tough one for the Green Bay Packers. The 49ers are entering Sunday night’s game at 2-0. For Green Bay to be successful in this game, they will need solid play from their defense for all four quarters.
