Green Bay Packers place running back AJ Dillon on injured reserve, ending 2024 season
Green Bay Packers running back AJ Dillon won’t be seeing the field in 2024, as his season was ended by injury before it could officially start as the Packers placed him on injured reserve on Tuesday. The roster move was made in concert with cuts to form the initial 53-man roster.
Dillon apparently suffered a stinger, the second time in less than a calendar year he’s sustained such an injury. A stinger is, in essence, a nerve injury that causes numbness in ones extremities after localized trauma on a limb; they’re quite common in football. Repeated stingers can begin to cause long-term issues.
It’s unclear when Dillon’s latest injury emerged, but he was scratched from Green Bay’s most recent preseason contest against the Denver Broncos before getting put on ice for the 2024 season.
Dillon entered free agency this offseason after being drafted by the Packers in the 2020 NFL Draft out of Boston College. Without much of a market, he came back to Green Bay on a four-year qualifying offer, which really means the team can move on after this season — especially at the low salary figure.

Dillon has played in 60 career games, carrying the ball 597 times for 2428 yards and 16 touchdowns. He’s served primarily as Green Bay’s No. 2 back and a bruising option in the power running game at 6-feet tall and around 245 pounds.
And with Dillon out of the picture, even more work will fall to free agent signing Josh Jacobs and rookie MarShawn Lloyd.
