Green Bay Packers QB coach Tom Clements retiring
Longtime Packers offensive assistant Tom Clements is retiring, Matt LaFleur revealed to the media on Tuesday morning.
“Man, it’s been such a cool ride with him the past few years,” LaFleur said regarding Clements, paying his respect to the longtime Packers assistant, via Ryan Wood of USA Today.
Clements originally joined Green Bay in 2006, where he worked his way up from the team’s quarterbacks coach to their offensive coordinator and assistant head coach by 2016. After a couple of years away, he returned to the franchise in 2022, where he’s thrived teaching players like Jordan Love in his original role with the team.
Throughout his time with the franchise, Clements helped mold a bevy of star quarterbacks, including Brett Favre and Aaron Rodgers, although he spent much more time with the latter. The assistant originally retired in 2021 after his stint with the Arizona Cardinals, but decided to return to Green Bay when the opportunity arose.
Moving forward, it’s evident Matt LaFleur might not have an easy time finding a suitable replacement for someone like Tom Clements. His time in Green Bay will likely always be remembered, as his impact on the Packers has been undeniable over the past two decades.

More on the Matt LaFleur, Green Bay Packers
Meanwhile, the Green Bay Packers are still licking their wounds following their Wild Card Weekend loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. Matt LaFleur’s bunch was never able to kick it into high gear, and they fell to the NFC East champions by 12 points.
The Eagles raced out to a 10-0 lead, and Green Bay was never truly able to get back into the game. While their defense did all they could to keep it close, the Packers offense was stuck in the mud for most of the evening, and it was their eventual undoing in the City of Brotherly Love.
Jordan Love’s performance left much to be desired, as he tossed three interceptions. Elsewhere, Josh Jacobs was held in check for much of the game, as he only rushed for 81 yards and a touchdown on 18 carries.
Moving forward, the Packers will hope to learn and grow from their shortcomings over the weekend. Green Bay’s future is bright, but they certainly didn’t envision being home before the Divisional Round coming into the 2024 campaign.
