Green Bay Packers releasing QBs Sean Clifford, Michael Pratt
The Green Bay Packers are moving on from quarterbacks Sean Clifford and Michael Pratt ahead of the start of the regular season. According to Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network, the Packers released Clifford and waived Pratt as the team gets the roster down to 53 players. The Packers now have two quarterbacks on the roster, Jordan Love and Malik Willis.
Clifford joined the Packers last year after being drafted by the team in the fifth round. He played in two games last year and just attempted one pass for 37 yards. Pratt was selected by Green Bay in the seventh round of this year’s draft. He played college football at Tulane and was named AAC Offensive Player of the Year in 2023.
Rob Demovsky of ESPN reported that Clifford was “likely gone” after the Packers traded for Willis this week. With Clifford and Pratt no longer on the roster, Willis becomes the backup QB, but the team could bring back Pratt and sign him to the practice squad if he clears waivers.

After the preseason finale, Packers head coach Matt LaFleur was asked if Clifford and Pratt were good enough options behind Love. “We’ll see. There were some really good moments and then there were some things we absolutely have to do better,” LaFleur said. “And then we’ll evaluate everything that’s out there for us.”

Earlier this year, Clifford talked looked back at his rookie season. “It was fun. A lot of fun. I learned a lot. We weren’t a great team at the beginning of the year, I think everyone would say that. But we knew what we had and we overcame a lot of adversity,” the Penn State alum told Jeff Kerr of CBS Sports.
“We lost four straight at one point, but we came back and started winning some big games. By the end of the year, we sneaked our way into the playoffs and made a run. We really had a chance to beat the 49ers. I know you all saw the outcome, but they’re a great team. At the end of the day, it was a toss up at the end of the game.”
After Pratt was selected by the Packers in April, he spoke to the Green Bay media about joining the QB room with Love and Clifford. “Watching Jordan Love, I loved what he did at Utah State,” Pratt said. I actually have a pretty good connection with Sean Clifford. We’ve been kind of in touch for the past couple of years.”
