Green bay Packers tight end Robert Tonyan injury severity revealed
Green Bay Packers tight end Robert Tonyan went down on Thursday night with a left knee injury. As Tonyan caught a 33-yard pass against the Arizona Cardinals, he was spun around and landed awkwardly on his left knee. He immediately grabbed his knee but was able to walk off the field under his own power.
On Friday afternoon, the Packers’ hopes became reality. Tonyan suffered a torn ACL in his left knee on the play and will be out for the remainder of the season, per Pro Football Focus.
Tonyan caught three of his four targets for 49 yards on Thursday night before leaving with the injury. On the season, he has 18 receptions for 204 yards and two touchdowns.
Tonyan did not have much of a role on offense in his first two years in the league, but he broke out for the Packers last season. In 16 games last year, Tonyan caught 52 passes for 586 yards and 11 touchdowns. He is due to become a free agent after the season.
Tonyan wasn’t the only Packers player to suffer a season ending injury on TNF
In addition to Tonyan, the Packers also lost running back Kylin Hill for the season with a knee injury. Hill was returning a kickoff and suffered a hard hit directly to his knee as he planted into the ground. He was carted off the field, as was Jonathan Ward of the Cardinals.

Hill is a rookie out of Mississippi State and has been serving as the Packers’ third string running back behind Aaron Jones and A.J. Dillon. He had 10 carries for 24 yards on the season.
In Tonyan’s absence, tight ends Marcades Lewis Dominique Dafney, Josiah Deguara, and Tyler Davis are in line for more involvement in the offense.
Tonyan was the third most productive weapon in the passing game for the Packers this season. His 18 receptions trail just Davante Adams and Aaron Jones. Tonyan’s 204 yards trail those two as well, and he is tied for fourth on the team with two touchdowns.
The Packers are now 7-1 on the season. Davante Adams and Allen Lazard missed Thursday night on the reserve/COVID-19 list. Once those two return, and Marques Valdes-Scantling returns from injured reserve, the Packers should be able to find ways to replace Tonyan.
