Earlier this week, the Green Bay Packers made a trade with the Houston Texans. It wasn’t a quarterback swap involving Aaron Rodgers and Deshaun Watson, but it’s one both teams hope to benefit from.

The Packers traded cornerback Ka’Dar Hollman to the Houston Texans for a 2022 seventh-round pick, the team announced on Tuesday.

After being selected by Green Bay in the sixth round of the 2019 NFL Draft, Hollman appeared in 18 games for the Packers. However, the former Toledo Rockets defensive back only accumulated ten tackles and three pass defenses.

While his impact with the team that drafted him was minimal, at least the Packers recouped a seventh-round pick for his services. As for the Texans, they get the cornerback depth they were looking for, and give Hollman an opportunity to prove his worth.

“He has really good corner ability.”

Evidently, the Texans believe Hollman can develop into a solid piece for their defense. Following the trade, Houston head coach David Culley spoke about the former Packers cornerback’s ability.

“He has really good corner ability,” Culley said, per Texas Sports Nation. “He has the ability to do what we want to do back there. He’s a smart player.

“He’s a player that understands what we’re trying to do back there on defense, and we feel like he fits very well there.”

Additionally, Hollman joins a defensive back unit with veterans littered throughout. If he can learn from players like Bradley Roby and Terrance Mitchell, he could become a solid player in the league.

Moreover, Hollman will fight for playing time with other defensive backs, including Rasul Douglas and Vernon Hargreaves III. Competition is never a bad thing though, iron sharpens iron as they say.

The Packers and Texans have history

Apparently, the Packers and the Texans have become buddies when it comes to the trade market. The two teams hooked up for a deal earlier this summer, sending Randall Cobb back to Green Bay.

The trade was kickstarted by Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers, who specifically requested the team trade for him. As you can see, Green Bay obliged, and the Texans sent Cobb on his merry way.

Later on, the Packers and the Texans hooked up again. This time, it was for a preseason game in Houston.

With Rodgers and Cobb both not playing, Green Bay fell to the Texans by a score of 26-7. The game featured the debut of Jordan Love, who unfortunately left with an injury.

While the Hollman trade may be the end of the Packers-Texans relationship for the 2021 season, who knows what they could conjure up next. Alas, it remains to be seen if the two sides revisit talks for another trade in the future.
