The Green Bay Packers hosted former Georgia quarterback Jake Fromm on Friday for a workout ahead of training camp, according to NFL insider Ian Rapoport. The former fifth-round draft pick for the Buffalo Bills hit free agency in May when the Washington Commanders waived his contract.

Although Fromm had a strong preseason for Washington last year, passing for 235 yards with three touchdowns and no interceptions in the last two games, the Commanders opted to move forward with Sam Howell and veteran Jacoby Brissett ahead of the 53-man deadline. He then re-signed with the team to join the practice squad. On Dec. 30, he was activated to the 53-man roster.

Fromm has bounced around the league quite a bit since being drafted by the Buffalo Bills in the fifth round of the 2020 NFL Draft. He played for the Bills one season – serving as the team’s COVID emergency quarterback – before the New York Giants signed him from the Bills practice squad in 2021.

Fromm made a couple of starts for the New York Giants in place of Daniel Jones before signing with the Washington Commanders for 2022. In three games played in the league, he has 27 completions for 210 yards and three interceptions with one touchdown.

Fromm started for three seasons while at Georgia. As a freshman, he helped lead the Bulldogs to the finals of the College Football Playoffs. The next two years, Georgia reached the SEC championship game only to lose to Alabama then LSU.

If the former Bulldogs star makes the Packers’ roster, he’ll report for training camp on Sunday. The rookies reported for camp on Wednesday. Fromm would join Jordan Love, Sean Clifford and seventh-round draft pick Michael Pratt in the Green Bay QB room.

More on the 2024 NFL offseason, free agency

The NFL 2024 calendar year began at 4 p.m. ET on March 13. At that time, contracts running through 2023 officially ran out, making those players free agents. Prior to the beginning of free agency, teams had a chance to designate one franchise or transition tag player, starting on Feb. 20 at 4 p.m. ET and ending on March 5. Beginning March 11 through March 13 teams could enter into a legal negotiation with players who will become unrestricted free agents.

In addition to NFL free agency, the new year also marked the beginning of all trades being made official by the league office. April 19 marked the deadline to sign restricted free agents to offer sheets. On April 24, the deadline for teams to match restricted free agent offers sheets hit.
