A game between the Charlotte Hornets and Memphis Grizzlies has been delayed. A hard fall for Jaylen Wells resulted in a stretcher being brought onto the court.

After Wells was taken off on a stretcher — he received oxygen while on the stretcher but was seen waving his right hand as he was wheeled off the floor — the game was delayed for an unusual reason. The ambulance that took Wells away from the arena was the only one on location.

The game could not resume until another ambulance arrived on site. So it was delayed temporarily.

Jaylen Wells was injured after attempting a dunk with 1:12 left to play in the first half. He was hurt when KJ Simpson got caught up underneath him from behind, sending Wells slamming into the floor.

He lay motionless for a minute or two as players from both teams and the referees gathered around him. Medical personnel then came out to tend to him.

After a few minutes, Jaylen Wells was loaded onto a stretcher. He was then taken out of the arena, but he received large cheers from the crowd as he managed to wave his right hand as he was being wheeled from the court.

The Memphis guard had logged 11 minutes in the contest and chipped in three points, five rebounds, two assists and a teal. He had a +21 plus/minus.

Memphis led big at the time of the injury and held onto that lead as the game eventually reached halftime following the delay. At the break, the Grizzlies had a 63-44 lead.

For his role in the foul that led to the scary collision and hard foul to Jaylen Wells, KJ Simpson was assessed a Flagrant 2 foul. Simpson had seven points, two rebounds and two assists at halftime.
