Well, it looks like Hailie Deegan is going open-wheel racing. The former NASCAR driver will race in Indy NXT for the 2025 season. The Indy NXT series is more or less the equivalent to the Xfinity Series in NASCAR but for IndyCar.

Hailie Deegan came up in karts, so this is a bit of a return to her roots. When Deegan departed AM Racing earlier this season, it was clear she was looking for another opportunity.

An appearance at the Indy NXT race at Iowa Speedway earlier this season raised eyebrows. Now we know she’s teaming up with HMD Motorsports in the No. 38 car.

Hailie Deegan made her own post. She is happy to have this news announced after keeping it a secret for so long. She will be teamed up with Bryon Aron, Caio Collet, Josh Pierson, and Tommy Smith in 2025 at HMD.

“It’s been hard keeping this one a secret…So excited to announce that I’ll be racing Indy NXT in 2025 with HMD Motorsports,” Deegan posted.

Earlier this season, Deegan left her Xfinity Series ride after a disappointing 17 races. However, it isn’t as simple as it may seem. The results for the team since then have been less than inspiring.

Hailie Deegan takes new opportunity after NASCAR fallout

AM Racing is a peculiar situation. Yes, they have an alliance with Stewart-Haas Racing but that doesn’t mean they are getting the same performance out of their cars.

In fact, Hailie Deegan put up a season-best finish of P12 in the No. 15 car during her time in it. She finished inside the top-20 four times. Since losing her ride, only Joey Logano has been able to best her P12 finish. He did it twice, but is a two-time Cup Series champion.

Lawless Alan did manage a P13 finish at Atlanta. But Josh Berry, Gus Dean, Logan Bearden, and Dylan Lupton have not been able to outperform Deegan’s best finish, or even second-best finish. None of those other drivers put this No. 15 car in the top-20 so far. Lupton is finishing the season out.

So, Hailie Deegan is moving on. AM Racing has for sure moved on and will have Harrison Burton behind the wheel in 2025. But will we actually see a huge improvement in the performance of this team? That remains to be seen.
