Heartbroken Josh Allen reflects on AFC Championship loss to Chiefs
Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen was upset that his team came up short against the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC Championship game on Sunday night. While speaking to reporters during his press conference, Allen said for the Bills to win their first Super Bowl in franchise history, they have to find a way to beat the Chiefs.
“It’s not fun,” Allen said. “To be the champs, you gotta beat the champs. And we didn’t do it tonight.”
Allen has led the Chiefs to the playoffs the last six seasons, and they have been eliminated by the Chiefs four of the last five years. On Sunday, the Chiefs beat the Bills 32-29, and it’s the third consecutive playoff game the Bills have lost to the Chiefs by six points or less.
While Bills fans are wondering what happened, it’s hard to blame Allen for the loss as he threw for 237 yards and two touchdowns on Sunday. In three playoff games this year, Allen threw four touchdown passes and zero interceptions.

Is Josh Allen in the Patrick Mahomes Era?
Ahead of the AFC Championship, there was a of talk about Allen facing Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes and getting over the hump. After the game, ESPN NFL analyst and two-time Super Bowl champion Booger McFarland said it’s going to be tough for Allen to win a title because of Mahomes.
“Josh Allen is in the Mahomes era,” McFarland wrote on X. “Just like all the great players in the Jordan era. Doesn’t mean they weren’t great. Just means they were born at the wrong time. I don’t feel bad for Josh. These wins are earned not given.”
Despite the disappointing loss to the Chiefs, Allen had one of the best seasons in his career. The former Wyoming star competed 63.6 of his passes and threw for 3,731 yards, 28 touchdowns and six interceptions. Allen also rushed for 531 yards and 12 touchdowns on 102 carries. His production in 2023 led to him being named to the Pro Bowl for the third time in his career. Allen was also selected to the All-Pro Second Team.
