J.D. PicKell's College Football Playoff Rankings After Week 3

Three weeks of college football have now passed, and some players are beginning to emerge as early Heisman Trophy candidates. It’s still far too soon to decisively say who has a shot to be a finalist, but FanDuel has odds based on what’s taken place thus far.

Unsurprisingly, the list is incredibly quarterback-heavy. Of the 20 players mentioned, all but two of them are quarterbacks. There is even a backup signal-caller making a huge jump in the odds, not being too far behind the starter.

There’s a long way to go between now and December, and we’re sure to see players come and go in the Heisman Trophy race in that time. But for now, these are the ones with the best odds to end up a winner, according to FanDuel.

+450 — Miami QB Cam Ward

There is a new favorite to win this year’s Heisman Trophy and he resides in South Florida. Ward is still riding high following an impressive debut against Florida and has Miami looking like one of the favorites to win the ACC.

A few more challenging opponents are coming on the schedule, with a trip to USF occurring on Saturday. ACC play will then begin where Ward will have an opportunity to really shine.

+600 — Alabama QB Jalen Milroe

Kalen DeBoer had a player in New York City last season but wound up falling short. Could the story be different this go-round with Milroe, who is off to a flying start in the head coach’s offense?

Milroe has eight passing touchdowns and another six on the ground through eight games. No interceptions either, making strides as a quarterback from this time a year ago.

+600 — Ole Miss QB Jaxson Dart

The Ole Miss schedule has not been impressive to this point but Dart has taken full advantage. Stats galore has come from the Rebel quarterback, already throwing for 1,172 yards — the most in college football through Week 3.

Dart will likely inch closer to the favorite if he can continue to perform against SEC foes. One more nonconference game vs. Georgia State takes place Saturday before getting into the conference grind.

+900 — Oregon QB Dillon Gabriel

Oregon’s offense was putting up nice numbers through two weeks but was in tightly contested ball games. That changed in Corvallis, with Gabriel leading the Ducks to a massive Civil War win against their in-state rivals.

Gabriel is one of the more experienced players in the country this season and is playing like it. Play at a high level through Big Ten play and Gabriel could find himself as a finalist.

+900 — Tennessee QB Nico Iamaleava

Multiple young first-year starting quarterbacks have taken over programs this season. Iamaleava has been the most impressive by far, putting up historic numbers with Tennessee.

The Vols are heading to Norman this weekend, the old stomping grounds of their head coach, Josh Heupel. Heisman moments can be produced in these types of games, especially when breakout performances occur.

+1400 — Georgia QB Carson Beck

Beck was the preseason favorite to win the Heisman Trophy, with sound logic. He was the quarterback for the No. 1 team in the country, usually a good indicator of who will wind up winning.

Georgia’s offense came out slow against Kentucky, though. Beck was +850 entering the weekend but has slid down the board considerably.

+1800 — USC QB Miller Moss

Lincoln Riley has the most impressive track record out there when it comes to his players winning the Heisman Trophy. Two got the job done at Oklahoma while Caleb Williams took home the honors with USC in 2022.

Moss was in a standalone primetime spot Week 1, playing LSU on Sunday night of Labor Day Weekend. More chances to perform are coming as USC enters its first-ever Big Ten season, beginning Week 4 against Michigan.

+2000 — Texas QB Quinn Ewers

This time last week, Ewers was the betting favorite to win the Heisman. Texas was fresh off a statement win in Ann Arbor against Michigan where Ewers was fantastic.

But an injury means he will miss at least one game against Louisiana-Monroe. Steve Sarkisian has already listed Ewers as “questionable” for next week against Mississippi State. Getting back healthy is top priority before thinking about the Heisman again.

+2000 — Ohio State QB Will Howard

Ohio State has yet to play a big-time game, not giving Howard an opportunity to make a name for himself. While the time will come, he is currently placed in the latter half of the top 10.

Howard has one of the best skill position groups around him, both wide receiver and running back. Plays will be made and give the Kansas State transfer an opportunity to put up Heisman-like numbers.

+2000 — Boise State RB Ashton Jeanty

You have to travel all the way down to +2000 to find your first non-quarterback. Jeanty is certainly worthy of the honor, producing at an incredible clip for any running back.

Two games have seen Jeanty run for 459 yards and nine touchdowns. The second came against Oregon, widely considered a top defense in college football.

Heisman Trophy Betting Odds: 11-20
