Taylor Swift may favor the Kansas City Chiefs, but a historic jersey color trend from Super Bowls of the past is leaning with the San Francisco 49ers.
When the gigantic showdown takes place on Sunday, the Chiefs will be in red, while the 49ers will be rocking their white uniforms. While Kansas City did defeat San Francisco in this exact uniform combination back in 2020, the past favors the team wearing the white jersey.
Check out the stat below, shared to X (formerly known as Twitter) by DraftKings, highlighting the advantage in the uniform department San Francisco will have.
“Official Super Bowl LVIII jerseys: Chiefs in red. 49ers in white,” DraftKings posted on X, formerly known as Twitter. “Teams that wear white are 17-6 in the Super Bowl since 2000, 11-3 since 2010. The last team to wear a colored jersey and win was the Chiefs in 2020. Only four teams since 2004 have won in colored.”
Of course, it doesn’t really mean anything towards the game, but it’s an interesting stat nonetheless. It’s actually one that worked out in the Chiefs’ favor last year, as Kansas City wore white when they defeated the Philadelphia Eagles in 2023.
Time will tell if the white uniform is the difference, or if the Chiefs can overcome the odds once again. It should be an amazing game between the 49ers and the Chiefs, and the uniform matchup won’t have anything to do with that.

The Kansas City Chiefs advanced to the Super Bowl by winning the AFC title with a thrilling 17-10 win over the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday. The game was a defensive struggle on a rainy day in Baltimore, but the experience of the Chiefs paid off in a big way. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes did what he had to do and was ready to roll from the start.
Mahomes finished the AFC Championship Game 30-of-39 passing for 241 yards and a touchdown. His main target was veteran tight end Travis Kelce, who caught 11 passes for 116 yards and a touchdown. During the game, Kelce broke Jerry Rice‘s old NFL playoff record for most postseason receptions.
The 49ers, meanwhile, advanced with an NFC Championship Game comeback against the Detroit Lions. Detroit led 24-7 at halftime but was limited to just one late fourth-quarter touchdown in the second half as San Francisco stormed back.
The 49ers were powered by running back Christian McCaffery, who ran 20 times for 90 yards and two touchdowns and also caught four passes for 42 yards in the game. Quarterback Brock Purdy finished 20-of-31 passing for 267 yards and a touchdown with one interception.
